For the Colony Corridor Challenge, we want an atmospheric, gloomy corridor in the style of the image shown below. The image is a grab from my all time favourite SF movie 'ALIENS'. An exact replica is not required, you have free choice in the design but it must be grungy. We do not want pristine plastic Enterprise passageways, Trekkies need not enter.
Specific Colony Corridor Challenge Rules.1. Add as much as you like in the way of: girders, panels, switch-gear, general junk & clutter, piping, ventilators, hatches, decking etc.. More is better.
2. WIPs! WIPs! WIPS! We must have more than the cursory "
I've just got to tweak the lighting" before the final render. We want to see proper progress stage WIPS as you work through basic modelling, adding detail, texturing through to final image.
3. The main texturing should be with Procedural Materials. Images can be used for decals, signs etc..
4. The majority of the modelling should be polygon modelling. SplineNurbs can be used for the likes of cabling.
4. Judging will be based on clean modelling, level of detail, texturing, gloomy lighting and final rendered scene.
5. Deadline Midnight CST (North America): Friday, 10th July 2009.
Standard Challenge Rules:1. All final entries must be made in the proper "Final Entry" thread locate
here.
2. Maximum final image size is 1280 x 1024. WIP entries can be smaller. Please compress your jpeg images. Anything over 400kb is too big.
3. Cel Renders with HyperNurbs disabled are required for the WIPs. Cel Renders must be black line on white background.
Check out our cel rendering tutorial
here if you don't know how to do one.
4. No imported models / meshes / scenes. You cannot use models etc that you have previously modelled. You must start everything new and specifically for this challenge.
5. No time limit i.e. take as long as you like to do the modelling and texturing. Members can enter multiple times.
6. PhotoShop post work is not permitted nor the use of other applications such as modo or Z-Brush for displacement maps. It has to be modelled and rendered in C4D or using a C4D renderer like Vray etc.
7. Only one final image and wireframe may be submitted for your final entry. Hypernurbs must be disabled in the wireframe. We want to see the polygon construction.
8. No remote hosting of images. All images to be uploaded to the Cafe. Just press the "add this attachment" button to upload each image.
9. The Cafe judges reserve the right to disallow any entry if in their opinion the entry contains objectionable, offensive material or blatant advertising.
10.
No reminders or warnings will be given if your entry does not comply with the Challenge Rules. It is up to you to read and comply with them.
The top 3 entries will each get an award under their avatar and get their image featured in the Challenge Winners section of the gallery.
Good luck and have fun, Alan.
Heck, I'm tempted to try this one myself.
